My name is Mark Luhr and I would like to share with
you how I became interested
in the upholstery business and ultimately reaching the quality of work
we provide today. I guess that's how it started, my hobby soon grew into a profession after beginning my 7 year apprenticeship in 1968 with a local upholstery shop. I started out by disassembling car interiors: seats, door panels, carpet, repaired seat springs, welded seat frames and upholstered each part before reassembling. I learned a wide variety of upholstery techniques including how to build convertible tops from some of the best upholsters around. I also learned how to install vinyl in convertible tops, custom fit seat covers and how to properly match everything for stripes to line up. My apprenticeship taught me several different aspects of the upholstery business including "what not to do" which eventually inspired me with the idea, I should do this on my own. I wanted to provide a higher quality product so in 1976, I opened my own shop and started turning out high quality interiors. Over the years, we have acquired an understanding of what our customers desire and focus on the extra time needed to design high quality interiors at a fair market price. We think our commitment to quality and craftsmanship is unequalled in this industry. At Mark Luhr's Custom Upholstery, we continuously strive to improve our techniques, advance with technology and expand our knowledge to provide our customers with the highest quality product possible.
